The state of Florida has passed a regulation called the Federal Virginia Graeme Baker Act. The law is meant to prevent any direct suction from the pool to the pump and thus its ultimate goal is to prevent any person from being entrapped on the pump. The law is focused on eliminating suction-driven commercial pools completely and requiring that circulating suction systems use gravity-fed collector tanks instead.
What is a Collector Tank: The collector tank is part of a gravity drainage system. Gravity Drainage is a circulation system where the water flowing from the pool/spa does not connect directly to the pump. The water drains into a tank or basin open to atmosphere from which the pump pulls its water for circulation back to the pool.
What Sharper Image Pools will do: We will submit applications to the building and health department for permitting and be on site for all inspections. Sharper Image Pools can provide you with an itemized proposal based on your engineered drawings or have our engineer design and provide drawings for your project. Detailed job specific drawings will be required for an accurate proposal. We can convert your non-compliant direct suction commercial system to a state and federal compliant gravity fed collector tank system.
